Wind Technology

Wind Energy

Wind energy is the world's fastest-growing energy technology.  It is a clean energy source that is reliable, efficient, and reduces the cost of energy for homeowners, farmers, and businesses. NYSERDA, through its New York Energy SmartSM program, offers incentives to support those interested in investing in wind energy.

Wind Turbines

Wind turbines can be used to produce electricity for a single home or building, or they can be connected to an electricity grid for more widespread electricity distribution. They can even be combined with other renewable energy technologies.

For utility-scale sources of wind energy, a large number of turbines are usually built close together to form a wind farm. Several electricity providers today use wind farms to supply power to their customers. NYSERDA has supported the construction and operation of 41.5 megawatts (MW) of wind energy in New York. NYSERDA currently supports extensive wind resource development and prospecting efforts to identify promising new sites for wind development. These projects could result in the development of over 425 MW of wind energy, having the potential to satisfy increasing consumer demand for green energy and various green energy purchases in neighboring states.
